Snapchat: Enable and create your own geofilters
Geofilters give you the opportunity in Snapchat to photographically embellish the places of this world with that certain something. At the same time, you show the recipients of your photos where you are. Our guide explains how to activate geofilters and create your own designs.
How to enable Snapchat geofilters
- Open the Snapchat app.
- Access the "Settings" via the gear icon on the right and tap on the "Settings" entry there under "More options".
- Activate the option "Filter" by sliding the switch located there to the right.
- Now you can use the geofilters in your Snaps. Just swipe to the left on the Snap, because then the app will show you the possible geofilters at the bottom.
How to create your own Snapchat geofilter
You have the option to create your own geofilters. Visit Snapchat's Geofilter page and, as an individual, click on "Join Now" in the "COMMUNITY" section. There you will first learn the technical framework:- The graphic should be created in the resolution 1,080 x 1,920 pixels (width x height).
- The preferred file format is PNG with a transparent background.
- The PNG file must be smaller than 300 KB.
- Create a graphic that meets these criteria using a program like Adobe Photoshop CC 2015 or GIMP.
- Then click "Next" to enter the design mode. There, Google Maps takes center stage, complemented by the Snapchat geofilter options in the right margin. Use the large "+" icon to upload your created design and specify the desired geographical area in Google Maps.
- Enter the required data such as name and email address before clicking "Submit". While doing so, don't forget to check the captcha box.
- Wait until Snapchat accepts your geofilter and notifies you about it.
