Can you retrofit a laptop with Bluetooth?

Bluetooth allows you to connect your laptop wirelessly to other devices such as smartphones, headphones or speakers. If your laptop doesn't already have Bluetooth built in, you can retrofit the device.

How to check if your laptop supports Bluetooth

Most laptops nowadays have a built-in Bluetooth adapter that allows wireless connection to other devices. If you are not sure whether your laptop supports Bluetooth, you can check it in a few steps. If you are using a laptop with Windows 10, please open the settings of the device by pressing the key combination of "Windows key" + "i". If you find an entry for "Bluetooth" under "Devices" there, your laptop is Bluetooth-enabled and you can turn on the function.

How to retrofit your laptop with Bluetooth

If you already know that your laptop does not have a Bluetooth function or have found this out using the previously described method, you can retrofit Bluetooth on the device.
  1. If your laptop has a USB port, the fastest way to retrofit Bluetooth is to use a USB adapter.
  2. To do this, simply plug the Bluetooth adapter into one of the USB ports on your laptop and wait while the adapter drivers are automatically installed on the laptop.
  3. Alternatively, Bluetooth retrofitting is also possible with a Bluetooth card. Since this must be inserted into a PCI slot of the laptop, however, it is necessary to open the laptop for this.
