CPU utilization too high - what you can do

If the CPU utilization on your computer is too high, you will usually notice this because your programs stop responding or your computer may even crash. You can use the Task Manager to find out how high the current load is.

What you can do if your CPU load is too high

Normally, the distribution of resources is done automatically by Windows. Normally, therefore, there should be no overloading of the system. In some cases, however, it can happen that the CPU load is too high. This does not always have to be a problem with your system, in some cases it can also be due to the applications you are using, for example animation software or certain games.
  1. To check how high your load is at the moment, open the Task Manager. To do this, press the key combination "Ctrl" + "Shift" + "Esc".
  2. Already here you can see the open apps on the left side and the running background processes on the left side. On the right side, you can see the CPU usage in the first column and how much the corresponding apps need. Click on the "Performance" tab to see a more detailed breakdown of CPU usage over the last 60 seconds as well.
  3. To reduce your CPU usage now, go back to the "Processes" tab. Check which program is causing the overload. Right-click on it and select "End Task". Das kann vor allem dann helfen, wenn Ihre Programme sich aufgehängt haben.
