Change folder icon - how it works

As a rule, folders within an operating system always look the same. However, it is sometimes difficult to distinguish folders by name alone. For this reason, both Windows and Mac OSX give the option to change the icon of the folder. This is easily done through the properties.

How to change the folder icon

If you want to change the icon of the folder, then it works differently - depending on whether you use Windows as operating system or Mac OSX.

1. On Windows, first right-click on the folder and select the sub-item "Properties" in the folder menu to enter the folder's options.
2. In the "Customize" tab, under "Folder icon", you will find the button "Other icon...". Click on it.
3. You will be shown a list of all native icons from which you can select one. Then confirm the icon with "OK" or "Apply".
4. On Mac OSX, proceed similarly. Suchen Sie im Finder nach dem Ordner, den Sie ändern wollen.
5. Markieren Sie den Ordner und drücken Sie auf der Tastatur die Tasten CMD und i.
6. Ziehen Sie die Grafik, die Sie als Ordner-Symbol verwenden wollen, auf das kleine Ordner-Icon oben links in der Ordnerinformationsanzeige.
7. Es kann passieren, dass das Icon nicht direkt im Dock mitgeändert wird. In diesem Fall müssen Sie sich einfach einmal ab- und wieder anmelden, damit die Änderung wirksam wird.
