Mbit stands for megabit, MB for megabyte. The prefix "mega" means "million" and can therefore simply be shortened out to make the conversion clearer. The same logically applies to the next higher order of magnitude "Giga" (billion).

• The basis is actually quite simple: 1 byte consists of 8 bits. From bit to byte you thus calculate "divided by 8", from byte to bit it is "times 8".
• When working with files, you will usually find all specifications in bytes (or megabytes), not in bits. However, the latter is used to specify Internet rates.
• The conversion looks like this: 100 Mbit/s corresponds to 12.5 MB/s - the factor 8 is obvious.
• This goes analogously for all speeds: At 25 Mbit/s, you get a download speed of 3.125 MB/s, at 50 Mbit/s it is 6.25 MB/s.
