Excel: Insert arrow - how to use symbols in Excel

As in other applications of the Microsoft Office suite, you can insert special characters and illustrations, such as an arrow, into your tables in Excel. Learn where to find the special character library in Excel and how to insert graphics into your document.

Insert arrow as an illustration - here's how

To insert an arrow in Excel, use the shape function. The tool allows you to create a variety of different symbols and edit and visually adjust them after insertion.
  1. Open Excel and the file in which you want to insert the arrow.
  2. Call the "Insert" tab.
  3. Click on the "Illustrations" item on the "Shapes" option and select a symbol.
  4. Now place the symbol with the left mouse button at the desired location. You can use the anchor points on the symbol to adjust the size and alignment.
  5. Once you have selected the symbol, you will also find various options in the ribbon to customize - such as the fill color or shape effects.

Insert arrow as symbol

Alternatively to the shape tool, you can also insert the arrow as a special character in your document.

  2. Wechseln Sie zur Registerkarte „Einfügen“ und klicken Sie auf die Schalfläche „Symbole“, um die Sonderzeichenbibliothek aufzurufen.
