Teams: Delete chat - how it works

The Microsoft Teams program makes it easier for you to collaborate with your colleagues when you're on the road or working in your home office with video telephony and a chat function. Learn how to delete a chat you no longer need from Teams and edit individual messages here.

How to delete messages in a Teams chat

If you use Microsoft Teams, the program offers you not only the possibility of video telephony, but also a chat function. If you no longer need a chat and want to delete it, this is not yet possible. Instead, you only have the option to delete individual messages within a chat. The procedure required for this depends on the device on which you use Microsoft Teams.

1. If you use Teams on a PC or laptop, go to the message you want to delete and select "Delete" under "More options."
2. If you use Microsoft Teams on your iPhone or iPad, please press and hold the message you want to delete and select "Delete."
3. If you have an Android smartphone or tablet, you have two options for deleting individual messages. Either navigate to "More options" > "Delete" in the menu or press and hold the message to select the "Delete" option.

How to edit chat messages in teams

If you made a mistake while creating a message, you don't necessarily have to delete that message. Instead, Teams also give you the option to edit selected messages. To do so, select a message from the chat and choose "Edit" from the three-dot menu.
