Android 11: Set up a hotspot - how it works

In Android 11, you can also set up a hotspot so that other devices can connect to the Internet via your smartphone's mobile data connection. Find out here how to activate the feature and what to look out for.

How to set up a hotspot in Android 11

As in previous versions of Android, you can use your smartphone as a hotspot in Android 11. This allows you to share your cellular data connection with other devices, such as a laptop, via WLAN, Bluetooth, or USB. In order to use your smartphone as a hotspot, you first need to enable tethering in the settings. Note that some mobile carriers restrict the use of tethering or charge additional fees.Follow these steps to set up a hotspot:
  1. Call up the settings of your Android 11 device.
  2. In the overview, tap "Connections" and select the item "Hotspot and tethering".
  3. Activate the option "WLAN hotspot" and set an appropriate password.
  4. Finally tap on "Set up WLAN hotspot".
Once you have activated the function in the settings, you can conveniently control the hotspot via the quick settings. You can access the quick settings by swiping down from the top of the screen. Within the quick settings, you will then find the hotspot icon, which you can use to turn the function on and off. Once the hotspot is active, other devices can connect to it.
