Windows: Set up hotspot - here's how

A hotspot gives you the ability to share your Windows computer's Internet connection with other devices. Before you can use the hotspot, however, you need to set it up on your Windows PC.

How to set up a hotspot on Windows

If you are using a PC or laptop with Windows as the operating system, the procedure for installing a hotspot depends on the version you have installed. If you use a Windows 10 computer, you can share the Internet connection as follows:
  1. To set up the hotspot, please click the "Windows icon" at the bottom left and open the settings.
  2. In the settings, then navigate to "Network and Internet" > "Mobile Hotspot" and move the switch next to the entry "Share my Internet connection with other devices" to "On".
  3. Then click "Edit" and set a name and password for your hotspot.

Set up Windows Hotspot: This is how it works via the command line

If the previous version Windows 8.1 is still installed on your computer, you can set up the WLAN hotspot via the command line. Open the command line and enter the command "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=network name key=WLAN password". Then start the hotspot with the command "netsh wlan start hostednetwork" and go to the Control Panel. In this please navigate to "Network and Internet" > "Network and Sharing Center" > "Change adapter settings" and make a right click on your internet connection. Now select "Sharing" from the context menu and check "Allow other users on the network to use this connection of the computer as an Internet connection".
