Crossplay: What's the state of play?

Gamers on all platforms have been eagerly awaiting crossplay for years, which would finally break down the barriers between online networks. Owners of different consoles would finally be able to play together with it. Although the feature has long been under discussion among leading manufacturers, an agreement has yet to be reached.

With crossplay, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners could finally play together online.

Crossplay: This option exists

Rumors suggest Microsoft is ready to allow Xbox players to play together with PlayStation owners. But Sony refuses so far. As a reason, the Japanese cite their responsibility to guarantee players a safe online environment, and this would be difficult with crossplay. However, since the end of 2019, the beta phase of the crossplay feature for the PS4 has already ended. So developers now have the opportunity to incorporate the feature into their game.
  • Most popular online games are released for all consoles anyway, but playing together has only been possible across platforms for certain titles so far.
  • The most famous crossplay game is Fortnite. In this one, you can play together with anyone, regardless of whether they own a PC, Mac, Xbox One, PS4, or Nintendo Switch.
  • Other games include Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, Minecraft Dungeons, Paladins, Brawlhalla, Smite, Spellbreak, Wargroove, and several more.
  • There are still numerous games that are not cross-play capable, yet there are more and more titles that support the feature as time goes on.
  • If you're looking to cross-play between PC, PS4, and Xbox One, the selection of games is even far greater. Games like World War Z and War Thunder even upgrade the feature with an update afterwards.
