iPhoto: View images - here's how it works

If you use the iPhoto application on your Mac, it's a bit of a hassle to view your image files. That's because although your photos are easily displayed in the app, the original files are not so easy to find.

How to view pictures from iPhoto

If you view your photos via iPhoto and want to edit some of them, send them or save them to an external hard drive, you need the files. However, it's not exactly obvious where you can view them.
  1. First, open the "Pictures" folder on your Mac.
  2. Here you will find the "iPhoto Library". You can only open the folder by holding down Central and clicking on it, or by right-clicking.
  3. Select "Show Package Contents" from the context menu.
  4. Follow this by opening the "Masters" folder.
  5. You will now see a series of folders. The numbers represent the dates that the photos in each folder were imported into iPhoto. Look in the folders to view the images.

More current alternative to iPhoto

Apple has created a more current alternative to iPhoto with the app "Photos". What's particularly advantageous is that the app syncs with your iPhoto library when you first open it. So können Sie leicht umsteigen und haben sofort alle Fotos in der nutzerfreundlicheren Anwendung. Um die App „Fotos“ zu erhalten, müssen Sie eventuell Mac OS aktualisieren.
