Excel: Change background color - here's how

In Excel, you have several functions available to format cells. For example, if you want to highlight one or more cells in certain colors, then you can set the background color of these cells. For this you need to provide them with a fill color.

How to change the background color in Excel

If you want to highlight certain cells in Excel using a background color, you can use a fill color for this. It is also possible to add or modify a pattern.

1. Open the worksheet in which you want to select the cells. Alternatively, you can also change the background color of the entire worksheet. To do this, all you have to do is click on the square in the top left corner of the sheet and then click "Select all".
2. Now go to the "Start" tab. Then click on the small arrow next to "Fill Color", the icon with the paint bucket. Alternatively, you can press the key combination "ALT" + "H".
3. Now select a color under "Design colors". Außerdem stehen Ihnen eine Reihe von Standardfarben zur Auswahl. Unter „Weitere Farben“ können Sie auch eine benutzerdefinierte Farbe einstellen.
4. Die Farbe wird nun automatisch angewandt.
5. Möchten Sie hingegen ein Muster oder einen Fülleffekt anwenden, müssen Sie im Bereich „Schriftart“ unten rechts auf den Pfeil klicken. Anschließend öffnet sich ein Fenster.
6. Hier können Sie im Tab „Ausfüllen“ verschiedene Eigenschaften auswählen und über „Ok“ bestätigen.
