Google Photos: Share storage

Google Photos is an online service from Google. With this you have the possibility to backup photos from your smartphone. In principle, the use of Google Photos is free, but only a certain amount of storage space is available to you. This can lead to the message "Free storage space".

This is what you can do when you see the "Free space" message

If you see the "Free space" message in Google Photos, it means that your storage space is almost full. In this case, it is necessary for you to share storage for images on your smartphone.
  1. Start your Google Photos app on your Android or iOS smartphone. Then, if you haven't already, sign in with your Google account.
  2. Select your profile picture and then tap "Google Photos Settings." After that, go to the "Share device storage" option. On the iPhone, you will find this option under "Google Photos Settings" > "Manage Device Settings" > "Share Storage". On the iPhone, you will now be asked directly whether you want to share the memory.
  3. On Android, you will now see an overview of the specified memory on the device. If you click "Release", all items on your device will be deleted.
  4. However, usually these are only deleted on the device. Sync them regularly, you can still view the photos on the Google Photos website.
