This is how you can repair your iPhone cable

Charging cables have to withstand a lot - they are rolled up tightly, they are pulled on and sometimes you get caught on them. At some point, the sheathing then comes off at the bent point. However, you can usually repair minor damage yourself.

How to repair the cable of your iPhone

To repair the cable, you will need a ballpoint pen nib, a hair dryer or lighter, scissors and heat shrink tubing. You can get this on the Internet or in electrical stores. Here's how:
  1. First, cut two pieces of the heat shrink tubing. One should be a bit longer than the pen spring, the other another five millimeters longer.
  2. Slide the shorter piece over the cable and position it at the defective location. Then heat the heat shrink tubing with a hair dryer or a lighter until it hugs the cable.
  3. Then wrap the pen spring around the damaged area.
  4. Now pull the second piece of heat shrink tubing over the cable and slide it over the spring. Heat the tube again slowly, so that this also wraps around the repaired area.

So you can prevent your cable from breaking

If you have an iPhone 8, iPhone X or a more recent model, you can also charge it wirelessly. This allows you to save your charging cable a bit. If you still want to use a cable, then make sure that you do not roll up the charging cable too tightly during transport and always hold on to the plug when pulling it out.
