When you buy Windows 10 or any other software that requires a license key, they are usually shipped in so-called "boxed versions". In addition to the key, these also contain the manual and an installation CD. With an ESD key, however, you get the software directly over the Internet.

What is an ESD Key

If you do not want to buy a "boxed version" of an operating system, then the so-called ESD versions are a good choice. This means in detail "Electronic Software Distribution" and describes, as the name already says, the distribution of software electronically.

1. If you buy an ESD version, you will receive by e-mail only the so-called ESD key. This is the license key with which you can activate the software after installation.
2. The software itself, however, you download via the manufacturer's website. For example, if you have purchased an ESD key of Windows 10, then you must go to the Microsoft website and download the operating system there.
3. You must also download the manual and other information that is usually included with a boxed version from the Internet yourself. Mostly, however, all the necessary information is sent in the e-mail to the ESD key. So also a guide for installing the software.
4. ESD versions are usually cheaper and more current than boxed versions of the programs. For this reason, it is more likely to resort to these. Also, the download time is usually shorter than the delivery of the product.
