PowerPoint slide: portrait orientation - change the orientation

With PowerPoint you create a successful presentation by designing the individual slides with images, videos and texts. The slides are always aligned in landscape format, i.e. horizontally. If you need a vertical alignment for your presentation, you can set this individually.

How to make your PowerPoint slide portrait

In newer PowerPoint versions, to change the page orientation, first click on the "Draft" tab. This is located on the ribbon toolbar.
  1. Next, select the "Slide Size" entry.
  2. Then select "Custom Slide Size."
  3. A dialog box will open with the "Orientation" field in the upper right corner.
  4. Activate the item "Portrait" under "Slides" by clicking on it.
  5. Confirm with "Ok" and then select between "Maximize" and "Scale to fit". "Maximize" ensures that the entire space of the slides is used, while the second option checks whether all previously created content fits on the slide.
  6. You can also access this option in older versions via "Design" > "Page Setup" > "Slide Orientation" > "Portrait".

Can slides in a presentation have different orientations?

Until now, slides can only follow one orientation, which is why you have to decide whether they should all be in landscape or portrait format. However, you can align individual shapes and images within a slide differently.
