Change RDP port - how to do it
By using an RDP port you have the possibility to access and control another Windows PC. If you do not want to use the default RDP port for remote access, we will show you how to change the port yourself in this article.
For this you need the RDP port
RDP is the abbreviation for "Remote Desktop Protocol" and describes the possibility to access another Windows PC from your PC. However, for this to work, some settings are necessary. For example, remote access requires that port 3389 has been enabled on the router of the target PC. In addition, if the firewall on your PC is active, you must also release the RDP port in it.How to change the RDP port under Windows
Even if access to a foreign PC is possible via the default RDP port, it is recommended to change it, because the default port is often used by malware.- To change the RDP port under Windows, first open the Run dialog by pressing the key combination of "Windows key" + "R".
- Then enter the command "regedit" there and confirm with "Enter" to get into the registry of your Windows PC.
- In the window that opens, navigate to the path "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet" > "Control" > "Terminal Server" > "WinStations" > "RDP-Tcp2" and double-click on the entry "PortNumber".
- Thereupon a small window opens, in which you select under "Base" please the option "Decimal" before you enter the new RDP port in the field "Value".
- Finally save the changes with "OK" and restart the PC.
