Showing Windows AppData folder: How to do it

AppData is a system folder of Windows. User data of programs is stored in the folder. So the contents of the folder differ if you have multiple users registered in your system. Since Windows 10, the folder can be easily opened from the search bar.

Open the AppData folder in Windows

In Windows 10, the AppData folder can be easily opened from the search bar. Files from programs are stored in the folder. Each user gets their own AppData folder with personal files, even if the program was installed on all users. In the folder there are numerous system files that are essential for Windows to work. Make changes here only if you can foresee the consequences. In Windows 7 and 8, you must first show hidden folders before you can find the folder. After that, you will see it in your user in Windows Explorer.

OpenAppData folder in Windows 10

  1. Click in the Windows search box and type the following term:"%appdata%".
  2. Confirm with Enter.
  3. The folder will open.

Open the folder in Windows 7 and 8

  1. Open the Windows Explorer and click "Computer".
  2. Wählen Sie „Organisieren“.
  3. Klicken Sie auf „Ordner- und Suchoptionen“.
  4. Wählen Sie oben „Ansicht“.
  5. Bei der Option „Ausgeblendete Dateien, Ordner und Laufwerke anzeigen“ setzen Sie einen Haken.

  7. Öffnen Sie wieder den Explorer.
  8. Klicken Sie auf Ihren Benutzernamen.
  9. Sie sehen nun den Ordner „AppData“.
