Can I open XLS files with Open Office?

How to open XLS files with Open Office

If you have a file with the extension .xls on your computer, it is a format that was the standard format for Microsoft Excel until 2003. If you want to open the file, this is only possible with a specific program. However, you do not necessarily need Excel for this. The spreadsheet program Open Office Calc also understands the file format.

1. Try to open the file with a double click first. Usually, Open Office is started automatically and the file is opened.
2. Alternatively, right-click on the file. Then select "open with..." from the open menu. Then select Open Office Calc from the list of programs offered.
3. If you can not open the file even so or Open Office is not displayed, then open Open Office Calc manually.
4. In the open program, go to the top right of "File". Then select the menu item "Open". Search out the XLS file in the file manager and confirm the selection via the "Open" button. Then you will see the contents of the file.
