Switching Thunderbird to German: This is how easy it is

If you have installed Thunderbird in a foreign language, you can easily switch Thunderbird to German. To do this, all you need is Thunderbird's language pack, which can be installed and set up in just a few steps.

How to set Thunderbird to German

To use Thunderbird in another language, you need to install the language as an add-on:
  1. First close Thunderbird and open your browser to change the language in Thunderbird to German.
  2. If you only want to use the German language pack, download the Language Pack German.
  3. If you would like to use Thunderbird possibly also in other languages, download the add-on Quick Locale Switcher.
  4. Click on "Download" at the desired of the two add-ons and note where you save the file.
  5. Now open Thunderbird and click on "Add-ons" in the menu button or navigate to "Add-ons" under "Tools".
  6. Then click on the gear icon and select "Install add-on from file". Navigate to the downloaded file under "Open".
  7. Finally click on "Install now".
  8. To change the language in Thunderbird to German now, click on the country flag in the right area of the lower screen bar. Select German.

This way you set more languages with Quick Locale Switcher

In Thunderbird you can use the add-on "Quick Locale Switcher" to set other languages besides German and English, such as Italian, Spanish or Russian. If you are missing a language, you can simply download the corresponding language pack afterwards. You can find this option as usual in your browser.
