Steam: assign nicknames - how it works

By default you see your Steam friends under their account name. But that's not the only option - alternatively, you are allowed to assign nicknames. Our guide shows how.

With Steam nicknames, you can give free rein to your thoughts.

Steam brings together millions of players, and the more contacts you have, the harder it can be to keep track. Nicknames could work wonders in this case.

This is how you assign nicknames on Steam

Snicknames are very easy to set:

1. Open your contact list and right-click on the contact you want to give a nickname.
2. Select "Manage" and then "Add nickname".
3. Enter the desired name and click "Confirm".

The change will be active immediately and is only visible to yourself. Your contacts will not be informed about it, because the nickname affects only your view. So feel free to be creative and don't worry about the consequences.To remove the nickname, follow the same steps and re-enter the real account name.
