• Early in the game, your production options are limited. Simple items that can be collected in large numbers are a good choice because of this. Good examples are berries or straw.
• Once you can process raw materials into items via crafting, your profit margin increases. This soon becomes apparent with the stone axe, knife or even stews.
• Later, when you have access to iron, it becomes even more lucrative, since weapons such as iron arrows can be sold for good money.

Apart from the usual purchases, you should keep in mind that every spring the tax is due. For this reason alone, you should always have a good gold cushion in stock.
