Using Sky Go EU-wide: Info and innovations at a glance

Sky Go was also not exempt from the changes on April 1, 2018. Our guide explains what this means in detail for the EU-wide use of Sky Go and what restrictions are to be observed.

Legally regulated: Sky Go provides you since 2018 also on EU travel with all subscription content.

Since April 1, 2018, the EU Portability Regulation applies, thanks to which existing subscriptions to streaming services such as Netflix can be used not only in the home country.

Sky Go: EU-wide use with restrictions

That this is also possible with Sky Go is therefore obvious. Here is the most important info on this:
  • The regulation applies to all devices compatible with Sky Go, so for PCs, laptops, smartphones and tablets.
  • Importantly, even live streams (for example, soccer) are available in this way.
  • In individual cases, Sky checks whether the subscriber is actually registered in the specified country.
  • This does not change anything in the subscription prices, as these are solely dependent on the reported place of residence, not the current location.
All methods to circumvent geo-blocking are thus no longer necessary and this improves the user experience enormously. For both movie and series fans as well as for sports enthusiast Sky users, the EU regulation is thus a very welcome change, as subscription costs are no longer paid unused on EU trips.
