Using WhatsApp on your tablet - here's how

You can use WhatsApp not only on your smartphone, but also on your tablet. However, since the messenger is tied to a phone number, you have to do some trickery when installing it. Find out here how you can use WhatsApp on your iPad or Android tablet.

How to use WhatsApp on an Android tablet

If you want to use WhatsApp on your tablet, you'll have to go the long way around on both iPad and Android devices, as the messenger is actually designed for smartphones.
  1. Open the Play Store and search for "WhatsApp".
  2. Tap on the detail page of the app on "Install".
  3. Indicate your landline number instead of a cell phone number during installation.
  4. Thereupon, the transmission of the unlock code fails and you have the option to request the code by calling.
  5. After you have entered the code, you can use WhatsApp as usual.

Using WhatsApp on the iPad

If you want to use WhatsApp on an iPad, this only works via the web application of the messenger. It makes no difference whether you have an iPad model with or without a SIM card, since the app is not available in the Store.
  1. Call the WhatsApp website via the Safari browser.
  2. Switch to the desktop view. To do this, hold down the reload icon in the URL input field and select the option "Request desktop site".
  3. Now you can call up the "WhatsApp Web" function via the navigation and connect the messenger via the QR code with your smartphone.
Not only on the iPad this method works. You can also use the web version of WhatsApp on Android tablets.
