Windows 10: Using the character map - how it works

Whether Æ, Þ, © or Ø: If you are looking for special characters, Windows 10 has a suitable function for you. Our guide shows you how to find them and then use them.

The Windows 10 character table contains pretty much every special character.

Most users don't even know that Windows 10 has a built-in character table. Yet it is quite easy to find, if you only know how.

Windows 10: How to open the character table

The easiest way is to enter the command:
  1. Press "Win" + "R".
  2. Enter "charmap" and press "Enter".
Thereupon the character table opens. There you will see a large selection of special characters. To use a character elsewhere, click on it in the character table and then click "Select" below it. The special character will now appear in the field provided. There you can select it and copy it to paste it into Word, for example.
