Google Maps: Delete offline map - this is how easy it works

Offline maps are an important feature of Google Maps, as they allow you to find your way even without an Internet connection. If you no longer need a map, our guide shows you how to delete it.

Offline maps in Google Maps are handy, but they take up important storage space.

Depending on your smartphone and usage type, storage space can be a scarce commodity. It is therefore a good idea to delete files such as offline maps as soon as they are no longer needed.

Google Maps: Delete offline map made easy

Follow these steps:
  1. Open Maps and tap the menu icon with the three horizontal bars in the top left corner.
  2. Select "Offline Maps".
  3. Under "Downloaded Maps" you will see all offline maps currently stored on your device. Tap on the icon with the three dots to the right of the map you want to delete.
  4. With "Delete" you remove the map from the smartphone.
At the same time you can see how much memory the offline map has occupied. By the way, manual deletion is not absolutely necessary, because the offline cards have an expiration date by default and are thus automatically deleted.
