Excel: Import CSV - these steps are necessary

Tables and other simple structures can be saved in CSV format. These are "comma-separated values", i.e. values separated by commas. The spreadsheet program Excel can also read this type of file. For this, you need to import the CSV.

How to import a CSV into Excel

Having saved a table or list as a CSV, there are various programs that you can use to access this information. Microsoft's Excel spreadsheet program can also read this type of file. It is then possible to edit the table and save it in a different format. To do this, however, you must first import the file.
  1. Open the Excel program. Then go to the "Data" tab at the top of the bar.
  2. Now you will see the "From Text/CSV" button in the "Retrieve and Transform Data" area.
  3. Now you have the option to select the CSV file on your computer. Once you have selected it, click on "Import".
  4. After that, the "Import" wizard of Excel will open. Now you can make additional settings, such as the character set encoding. Here it is a good idea to select "UTF-8", since this recognizes most special characters. Make sure that you change the separator appropriately to improve readability.
  5. About "Edit" you can also make direct changes to the CSV file.
  6. Finally click on "Load" to import the file.
