How does a cell phone with two SIM cards work?

More and more smartphones support the so-called dual SIM function. There are already different variants, but you always need two different SIM cards. So you also get two different cell phone numbers and can select a different tariff for each SIM card. Two SIM cards have both advantages and disadvantages.

How does a cell phone with two SIM cards work

In a smartphone that supports the dual SIM function, there are two SIM card slots. Depending on the phone model, this can be two different slots or two placeholders in one slot. The advantage of this is that you can use two phone numbers with just one phone, thus separating business and private contacts. In addition, it is thus possible to combine two tariffs on two SIM cards with each other.
  1. Depending on the smartphone, you can select in the settings which SIM card is selected for the mobile Internet connection and which for calls and SMS.
  2. On some devices, you can also select directly before a call which SIM card you want to use to make it. Alternatively, it is also possible to divide the contacts on the SIM cards in advance.
  3. If your smartphone has two tranceivers, you can make calls with both SIM cards simultaneously and are reachable with the other. Thus, it is possible to receive a call from one phone number while you are on the other.
  4. Normally, you just need to insert the two SIM cards into the smartphone, then they are automatically recognized by the device.
