Microsoft Word: How to write the inequality character (≠)

Inequality is sometimes best expressed as a character. In Word, you also have the option to do this. Our guide explains the steps needed to produce the character.

The unequal sign requires two steps in Word.

Special characters can present users with some tricky tasks. For the inequality sign, we have a quick keyboard solution.

Word: How to succeed with the inequality sign

Entering the inequality sign in Word consists of two steps:
  1. First, enter the number combination "2260".
  2. Then press "Alt" and "C" simultaneously.
As a result, the character ≠ should now appear instead of the "2260". Instead of this method, you can simply copy the character (for example, from this guide) and paste it into your document.
