IPhone 14: there will not be a “mini” but two “Max”

The iPhone 14 range will be different from that iPhone 12 and iPhone 13: there will not be a mini but there will be two Max, at least according to the first rumors

Not yet passed the hangover from iPhone 13, just arrived on the market, which already the rumors are focused on the iPhone 14 that Apple will present, probably, in September 2022. Rumors that do nothing but confirm two things: the first is that iPhone 13 was a model "S" (ie with minimal changes, compared to its predecessor) while iPhone 14 will be a much more substantial update, the second is that there will be an iPhone 14 mini.

The lack of a "mini" in the next iPhone range was long ago already taken for granted by all: iPhone 12 mini was a flop and if Apple has chosen to propose an iPhone 13 mini is only because on the new iPhone 13 range there are many components already seen on iPhone 12, then not having produced and sold enough iPhone 12 mini Apple will try to empty the warehouses of components with iPhone 13 mini. But there is also an additional news: according to the latest rumors the lack of "mini" will be compensated by two "Max".

The two iPhone 14 Max

The rumor seems to have solid roots: the last to talk about it was Jon Prosser on his YouTube channel Front Page Tech, but before him also Mark Gurman of Bloomberg and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had speculated the arrival of two iPhone 14 Max.

To be precise it would be iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The range of Apple's next cell phones, therefore, will be composed of iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

There is to wonder, therefore, what will be the difference between the last two models also because, this year, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are identical in technical characteristics apart from the screen size (6.1 and 6.7 inches respectively), while rumors speak of 6.7 inches for both iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

We would think, assuming that these assumptions prove to be true, a "downgrade" of iPhone 14 Pro that, along with iPhone 14 "smooth" will necessarily have something less (in addition to the size) than the two upper models. Otherwise, iPhone 14 Max and 14 Pro Max would be identical.

Goodbye iPhone mini: welcome iPhone SE 3

The 5.4-inch iPhone 12 mini, in theory, made a lot of sense: it is the smallest 5G smartphone in the world, it goes to intercept the needs of those who want a cutting-edge phone but do not like the "padelloni" six inches and more and remains, however, a premium smartphone for those who want to stand out.

In practice, however, it was a flop because it had a big problem: the battery struggled to get through the night.

In practice, however, it was a flop because it had a big problem: the battery struggled to get through the night.

In fact, inside such a small body, Apple could not insert a very large battery.

With iPhone 13 mini Apple has run to the remedy, inserting a battery with greater capacity and that should ensure at least 90 minutes of intense use more. We'll see if iPhone 13 mini will be more successful than its predecessor, also because on the success of this model will depend, at least in part, the launch date of another highly anticipated iPhone: iPhone SE 3.

iPhone SE 2, released in April 2020 with a launch price of 499 euros, is an excellent phone with LCD display (but good) of 4.7 inches. It only lacks 5G to be an ideal device for a large amount of users looking for an iPhone but without large budgets. If iPhone 13 mini sells well, though, Apple will launch iPhone SE 3 as late as possible: otherwise, the SE could cannibalize sales of the 13 mini.
