The LG Watch Sport and LG Watch Style, produced in collaboration with Google, will be the first models to "wear" Android Wear 2.0
The puzzle is starting to come together. The first rumors spoke of the launch of the Android Wear 2.0 operating system in February on board generic Google smartphones. Now come other news that confirm the hypothesis, specifying the partner of the Mountain View giant, the name of the products and the exact date of the presentation.
LG Watch Sport and LG Watch Style: already from the name chosen you can guess that these two smart watches will have different technical features for users with different needs. LG Watch Sport will be the top of the range with a 1.38-inch circular OLED screen with 480 x 480 pixel resolution, 738 MB of RAM, 4 GB internal memory and 430 mAh battery. LG Watch Style will, on the other hand, feature smaller specifications: a 1.2-inch circular OLED display with 360 x 360 dot resolution, 512 MB of RAM, 240mAh battery, but with the same amount of internal memory as its sporty "brother" (4GB).
Features LG Watch Sport and LG Watch Style
Both models, in terms of connectivity, will include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, but only the Watch Sport will have cellular connection (LTE), GPS module and NFC technology to support the Android Pay platform for electronic payments. A questionable choice because the addition of Near Field Communication technology would not have added an exorbitant extra cost to the Watch Style. The two smartwatches will both be equipped with a touch screen, but also with a button - presumably located on the side of the crown - that by rotating allows you to move within the various menus and functions of the software. An excellent option for those who have difficulty interacting with their fingertips on such small screens. In terms of thickness, we speak of 14.2 mm for the Watch Sport and 10.8 for the Watch Style, while in terms of color the "sporty" will be available in titanium and dark blue, while the second in color variants titanium, silver, and rose gold with removable straps, an option perhaps not present in the top of the range. But we'll see.
For sports lovers
LG Watch Sport is, of course, a model intended for users who do physical activity. There will be, therefore, ad hoc features such as, for example, sensor to monitor the heart rate and IP68 certification that guarantees resistance to water and dust. No sensor for the LG Watch Style model but it will be water and dust resistant (IP67)
Price and release date
The LG Watch Sport and LG Watch Style will not only be the first smartwatches with Android Wear 2.0 on board, but also the first to experience - on the wrist - the Google Assistant. The products equipped with the Mountain View assistant are still few and among them we remember the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones and Google Home. The two smart watches will be - as mentioned - unveiled at a joint event between Google and LG scheduled for February 9 and already available for purchase in the States from the next day. LG will also repropose them at the MWC 2017 in Barcelona. It is very likely that they will arrive in our parts after the Spanish event. Since these are rumors, still all to be confirmed, the price of the two smartwatches is still shrouded in mystery.
