Seven kilometers from the finish line begins La Planche des Belles Filles, one of the hardest climbs of this Tour de France. The average gradient is 8.7 percent, but with sections that exceed 20 percent.

The stage favors breakaways from afar, and it could be a good opportunity for some escapees to reach the finish line solo. But it will be difficult.
