Protect Backup is a feature of WhatsApp that will serve to protect the backup of conversations made on Google Drive. Here's how it works
WhatsApp unveils one of the features that will be coming in the near future. Its name is "Protect Backup" and it is designed to make the application's backup made via Google Drive even safer. It is therefore a tool present for the moment only on the Android version of the messaging application, but it is not excluded that in the coming months will also arrive on iOS.
To give the news are as usual the guys at WaBetaInfo on their blog. For the moment, the feature is still in the early stages of development and has only been spotted on the alpha version of the application. There are few who can use it and so there is very little information available. According to what has been leaked by the usual well-informed sources, the tool will be present in the "Chat backup" section and can be activated or deactivated at will. What will it be used for? As you can guess from the name, "Protect Backup" will allow you to make your WhatsApp account even safer.
What it is and how it works WhatsApp's Protect Backup
After the dark mode (it should be available soon, a matter of a few days or weeks), WhatsApp is focusing its efforts to make the application even safer. In recent weeks, the platform has shown some weaknesses in this area, as confirmed by WhatsApp groups reachable via search engines.
The developers are working on a new feature called "Protect Backup" (in Italian it could be translated as "Protect backup"), a tool that allows you to encrypt the backup of messages made on Google Drive. The feature has been spotted on the alpha version of the app for Android and should work in a very simple way. Users can activate it from the settings and once done you will need to add a password (numeric code) that will allow you to protect your WhatsApp backup. This way, no hacker can restore the backup without knowing the security key.
When Protect Backup arrives
For now, there is no information about when it will be possible to use Protect Backup. The development phase is still in the early stages and only in the coming months will it be released in the beta version of WhatsApp. If the tests are successful, then it will be released for everyone. The waiting time is at least a couple of months.
