In recent times we hear more and more about hacked Instagram accounts and fake profiles used by cyber criminals on the famous social media to trick people and pretend to be who they are not. That is why it is very important to improve our cyber security when using Instagram. How? Simple, by using two-factor authentication.
Two-factor authentication, for those who don't know it, is a security solution that involves the use of a temporary password in addition to the credentials we usually use to access our Instagram profile, or any other web account. This temporary password will be sent to us via email, SMS or voice call to our smartphone whenever we need to log in again to our Instagram account. In a nutshell, once we enter our username and password, the social media will ask us for a second access key that will automatically arrive on our phone. In this way, even if a hacker managed to steal our password could not enter our profile because the second security key would only be in our possession on the smartphone.
How to activate two-factor authentication on Instagram
Activating two-factor authentication on Instagram is really very simple. And we'll be able to do it on both an Android phone and an iPhone. First we launch the Instagram app and then click on the little man icon in the bottom right corner to access the section dedicated to our profile. Then once in our profile click on the icon of the hamburger menu (recognizable by the three horizontal lines) and then on Settings. At this point we scroll until we find the words Two-Factor Authentication. Pressing on this item will open the section dedicated to this security feature and we'll have to tap on Start. Here we'll be asked to choose a security method, basically whether to receive the second password via SMS or generate the code with an app. If we choose the method with the app, the phone will identify the one that is suitable and installed, and if we have more than one it will make us choose the one we prefer.
