A quick and intuitive guide to prevent various websites from tracking our location while we are surfing the Internet
Under the guise of improving the end user experience many sites request permission to track location. If you are tired of dealing with these notifications and for your own privacy you don't want anyone to know your location, here are some simple tricks to prevent someone from tracking your browsing.
To disable location tracking permission requests you have to act directly in the settings of the browser you usually use. In this way, we will no longer be harassed while surfing the web by continuous notifications asking us to send the exact location where we are. Doing it is quite simple, and in many browsers the process is also similar. To avoid making mistakes and not succeeding, however, we will show you how to block location tracking on the various browsers most used.
Google Chrome
In Chrome the process is very simple. First we go to the menu, the icon with the three vertical dots in the top right corner. At this point we click on the entry Settings. Once opened the page scrolled all and click on the last item "Advanced Settings". This will open a new menu and go to the first item "Privacy". Here we click on the heading Content Settings. A pop-up menu will open, scroll down to the Location item. Here we have three choices: "Allow all sites to track your physical location", "Ask when a site tries to track your physical location" and "Don't allow any site to track your physical location". Obviously for our goal we just need to click on the last item.
Mozilla Firefox
On Firefox the process is less intuitive but not complicated. To do this we have to type "about:config" in the address bar. Once done we will be warned that this measure could "Invalidate our security", let's not worry and click on "I am aware of the risks". On the page that opens we enter the words "geo.enabled" in the search bar at the top. Double-click on the geo.enabled entry that appears and we'll have deactivated notifications and requests for location.
Opera
In Opera the process is very easy and quick. Let's go to the menu, which is in the top left corner. And at this point we choose the item Settings. Once this is done, a page will open with different sections and click on the "Websites" item. A menu will appear where we have to click on the item "Location". At this point we just need to click on the item "Don't allow any site to track my physical location" and that's it.
Microsoft Edge
Like any Microsoft app, Edge's settings can't be changed from within it but we'll have to go to Windows 10's general settings. Don't worry, this doesn't lengthen the process in fact it simplifies it. Let's go to Settings directly from the search bar of our computer, select Privacy and then Location. At this point in the menu we will find the item "Choose applications that can use the precise location". Next to Microsoft Edge we turn the indicator to Off. And that's it.
Safari
If we use Safari, the process will only take a few seconds, the time to make three clicks. First of all we go to the Browser settings, then we select the item Settings. At this point the appropriate menu will appear and we have to scroll to the privacy item. Here in the menu we go to the item Use of rental services for websites, and we select with a tick the wording "Deny without asking for confirmation". And again we will have achieved our goal.
