OnePlus 8 Pro, the smartphone with X-ray camera

The color filter sensor of the OnePlus 8 Pro is able to see inside plastic objects and "bare" the devices

Those who buy a smartphone OnePlus 8 Pro will have a feature that OnePlus does not even declare: the X-ray camera. Or rather: the ability to take X-ray photos is a consequence, undeclared, of the sensor "color filter" that, however, is well highlighted by OnePlus among the technical specifications of this device.

In fact, the X-ray photos were discovered by users, tinkering with the phone and all its functions. And since some of these users are very famous on Twitter and other busy places on the Internet, such as Max Weinbach of XDA-Developers and YouTuber Ben Geskin, the news that you can see through things by taking pictures or videos with the OnePlus 8 Pro's color filter mode jumped out. And immediately the Web was filled with videos recorded in X-ray with this device, thanks to which it is possible to know on which objects the trick works and on which not.

OnePlus 8 Pro, how to use X-rays

From the videos shown on the network it clearly emerges how it is possible, with the smartphone from OnePlus, to go through thin layers of plastic. For example, that of the shell of the remote controls, or the Apple TV: framed with the active color filter these objects are shown semi-transparent and you can see the underlying electronics, which unlike the plastic is opaque to X-rays. All you have to do is activate the color sensor, which is actually designed to create striking photographic effects by selecting a single color and highlighting it, to see the inside of some objects.

OnePlus 8 Pro: What objects do X-rays work on

X-rays are an invisible part of the light spectrum that is usually discarded by digital cameras. But the OnePlus 8 Pro's color sensor lets a small amount of it through and, because of that, the magic just described is possible. Magic that works, however, only with very thin plastic objects and with fabrics. Among the various images on the network, in fact, there is also one published by AndroidPit from which we can see that the photo sensor can perceive an A4 sheet with a writing placed under a black T-Shirt, worn by a boy. And this possibility could bring more than one criticism to OnePlus, since it has quite heavy repercussions on privacy. Who's to say that it won't be used by some peeping tom to "undress us with the smartphone"? OnePlus, meanwhile, isn't saying a word about its smartphone's X-ray camera.
