The Tesla dad admitted he wants to create an app store for the infotainment system of his electric cars. First, though, he needs to increase sales
When you first get into the cockpit of a Tesla, it's impossible not to notice. The touchscreen display embedded in the dashboard of the car, which reaches up to 17 inches diagonally, is the fulcrum around which all the smart features of Elon Musk's electric car revolve. And, with such a large screen, it was unthinkable that it would not soon be transformed into an "entertainment center".
For a few months, in fact, the central display mounted on board the various models of Tesla allows you to play some titles - rather simple, to tell the truth - while you are stopped in a parking lot or inside your garage. A pastime particularly appreciated by owners of electric vehicles of the U.S. manufacturer, so that Elon Musk is thinking of launching a real digital store from which users can download games and applications of all kinds. In short, a sort of Google Play Store or App Store, only for Tesla's electric cars.
The Tesla app store: how it will work and what apps there will be
The news was leaked by Musk himself. The Tesla's creator admitted that it's an idea that has been buzzing in his head for some time, although at the moment there is nothing concrete. According to Elon Musk, it would be a project to be developed in the medium to long term, when the number of Teslas in circulation will be greater and there might be more drivers interested in downloading video games and applications for their cars.
To tell the truth, it's not an absolute novelty. Back in 2012, when the Tesla Model S was unveiled, Musk confided that he wanted to create a software development kit (an SDK in technical jargon) so that third-party developers could create video games and other utilities for the electric car. Since then, however, nothing more has been done and, according to the creator of the Tesla brand, you'll have to wait a while before you can start downloading apps for your electric car.
