Honor 50 official: it’s a top of the range different from the others

Honor is there, and it's more alive than ever. Official the three Honor 50, with American chip and Android "full", so with apps and Google services. They will arrive in Italy

Honor is there, and how if there is. The company born from a rib of Huawei, recently changed hands for saving its life due to the great limitations of the U.S. trade ban, has announced the Honor 50 range. With two focus in some ways surprising: the abandonment of Kirin chips developed by Huawei and the presence of Google services and apps.

The main limitation imposed by the U.S. to Huawei, and in cascade also to Honor, consisted in the impossibility to have commercial relations with American companies: stop the dialogue with Google, so no Android if not in open source version, free, stop the use of any American component or that used American technology and knowledge. Heavy limitations, indeed very heavy, that Honor has managed to dribble "simply" abandoning the company that made it born and grow. So Honor 50, Honor 50 SE and Honor 50 Pro, official since a few hours, will not only have the processors of the American Qualcomm to replace the Kirin Huawei used in recent years, but also Android with Google services and apps.

Honor 50 and 50 Pro, technical specifications

The technical base chosen for the two Honor at the top of the range 2021 is the Snapdragon 778G by Qualcomm, octa core chip at 2.4 GHz made with a 6-nanometer production process that is positioned just a step below the "king" of the Qualcomm range, the Snapdragon 888. It is not a mid-range chip, but rather a mid-high end one: here we have analyzed it in depth.

At its side 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal memory, only 256 GB for Honor 50 Pro. The differences between the two continue on the display, 6.72 inches on the latter, 6.57 inches on Honor 50. In both cases, however, it is a Full HD+ OLED panel with 120 Hz refresh rate and 300 Hz touch sampling. The different diagonal implies different dimensions: 163.46 mm × 74.66 mm × 8.05 mm and 187 grams for the Honor 50 Pro, 159.96 mm × 73.76 mm × 7.78 mm and 175 grams for the Honor 50.

Identical the camera group at the rear: main 100-megapixel f/1.9, ultra wide-angle 8-megapixel f/2.2 and finally the two "surround" cameras of 2 megapixels each, one for macro, the other for depth of field. At the front a 32-megapixel selfie camera for Honor 50 while the Pro variant to this flanks an ultra-wide-angle 12-megapixel. Well-stocked on both the connectivity compartment, with 5G, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.1 / 5.2, NFC, and anything else, from 4,000 mAh battery on Honor 50 Pro and 4,300 mAh on Honor 50, but on the first there is also a super fast charging from 100 watts while on the second we stop at "just" 66 watts.

Honor 50 SE, technical specifications

Honor 50 SE is the member of the new family that will preside over the mid-range. It shares the same stylistic language of its brothers but with a different hardware. The display is a unit of 6.78 "LCD IPS Full HD + 120 Hz, while to manage the operations there is a chip MediaTek Dimensity 900 octa core 2.4 GHz with 6/8 GB of RAM and 128/256 GB of storage.

Front camera 16 megapixels and three rear: 108 megapixels the main, ultra wide 8 MP and finally a macro 2 MP. Connectivity remains as high-profile as on the older brothers as well as the battery, 4,000 mAh with fast charging at 66 watts.

Honor 50 range, prices and availability

The three Honor 50 will also arrive in Italy, but when and at what price is still impossible to say. In China, Honor 50 Pro starts from 480 euros, Honor 50 from 350 euros while Honor 50 SE from 310 euros.
