How is the Huawei Mate X, unveiled the Chinese foldable smartphone

Huawei has unveiled its foldable smartphone, here is the Mate X with 8-inch AMOLED screen, dual camera and with 5G technology designed for the South Korean market

Huawei launches the challenge to Samsung in the creation of a foldable smartphone, and does so with the project Mate X. A phone with an 8-inch screen and that, like the Galaxy F, can be folded back on itself. Here's what Huawei's foldable Mate X looks like.

The Mate X's 8-inch foldable screen was made by the company BOE Technology, the same company that made the curved panel already seen in the Mate 20 Pro from the same Chinese manufacturer. At the moment, the device is in the availability of some South Korean vendors, who are expected to put it on sale soon for a world premiere. Huawei has specified that this is not a prototype or a rendering and not even a test device dedicated only to certain categories of users. The Mate X is the first foldable smartphone for everyone thought by Huawei and will not have sales limits. At least not in the Asian market.

Mate x: foldable smartphone and 5G

Huawei for now has decided that in the short future the Mate X will have only one country of destination: South Korea. What is the meaning of this choice? Simple, Huawei has implemented its 5G technology in the foldable smartphone and will test both user usage from a foldable screen device and the new connection technology in an important market like South Korea. South Korea after all will be the first country in the world to test a widely deployed 5G network by the first half of 2019.

According to the latest rumors after unveiling the project Huawei will present the device at the Mobile World Congress in late February 2019 and a few days later will put it on the market in South Korea, where by April 2019 the 5G network should be complete and available to the entire South Korean population.

What we know about the Mate X by Huawei

At the moment on the Mate X device we know the design and some features. The external screen will be equipped with notch and with single 24-megapixel front camera. On the back of the device, made entirely of tempered glass shell, we find instead a dual camera with a 20-megapixel main sensor plus a 12-megapixel secondary one. A fingerprint sensor is also included in the outer screen. With the outer screen closed, the two parts of the foldable device stay together like the two ends of a wallet. For this reason, the phone is slightly thicker than the devices we are used to nowadays. Opening the two ends we will find instead the internal 8-inch screen to switch to tablet mode. This screen has no bezels. This larger internal screen also has a built-in fingerprint sensor. Camera sensors are not present on this inner screen.
