How can I block a program with the firewall?

With a firewall you can prevent hackers or malware from gaining unauthorized access to your system. Windows Firewall usually blocks suspicious programs automatically. However, you also have the option to block apps and programs manually via the security settings.

Block a program - this is how it works

Using the security settings, you not only have the option to add exceptions, but you can also specifically block certain programs.
  1. Go to the Start menu and click on the gear icon to open the settings.
  2. Switch to the "Updates and Security" category and select "Windows Security" in the navigation on the left.
  3. Click "Firewall & Network Protection" and then "Advanced Settings".
  4. Select "Outgoing Rules" in the list on the left.
  5. Click "New Rule" in the upper right corner and select "Program".
  6. Enter the file path to the program and click "Next". In the next two steps, you do not need to change anything in the default settings.
  7. Finally, name the new rule and click "Finish".

How to remove the lock again

The rule you created, of course, you can adjust or remove completely. To do this, call up the advanced settings of the firewall and look for the corresponding entry in the list of outgoing rules. Once you have found and selected it, you can use the navigation on the right to, among other things, deactivate the rule, call up and adjust the properties or remove the rule completely.
