MS Office Word: How to add new fonts

When you install Word, you are already provided with a wide selection of different fonts. However, there are thousands of other fonts that you can also use in Word. However, these must first be installed in your operating system before you can use them in Word.

How to install new fonts in Windows

To install a font, you first need the special file for it. Online, there are numerous sites from which you can download free fonts.
  1. For example, go to the Dafont website in your browser and browse the selection of fonts.
  2. Once you have made a selection, select the font and click "Download" or "Download".
  3. The font is now either downloaded in a ZIP archive or is directly in the correct file format.
  4. If necessary, unzip the ZIP folder and double-click on the file contained therein.
  5. It now opens a new window in which you click "Install". To perform this operation, you need administrator rights.

Alternative installation

  1. Alternatively, you can also go to the "Appearance and Customization" section via the Control Panel.
  2. There you will find the item "Fonts". It opens after the click a folder in which all already installed fonts are located.
  3. You can now drag & Drop the downloaded file into the folder and close it again.
