RimWorld: Mods for the Steam version - all info

RimWorld is one of those games that is still gaining a lot of added value thanks to an extremely active modding scene. We explain what it looks like for Steam players and give important tips.

Unlimited possibilities: Thanks to modding, RimWorld becomes even more varied.

The number of RimWorld mods is unmanageable and covers quite a few areas. Even crossovers like Monster Hunter RimWorld are available.

RimWorld: Steam mods preferably play locally

Basically, adding RimWorld mods via Steam is quite simple:
  1. Open the RimWorld view in your Steam library.
  2. Click on "Workshop".
  3. Subscribe to any mods you want to try.
  4. Start RimWorld and open "Mods" in the main menu.
  5. Activate the mods by clicking on the red cross next to it. This will turn it into a green checkmark.
The mods are now active, but there are a few things to keep in mind:
  • Some mods require a specific order. Ideally, this is specified in the mod description - be sure to sort the mods in this way.
  • Also read the description to see if incompatibilities with other mods are specified.
  • It is advisable to install a mod that takes care of mod management, such as "Mod Manager".
  • With such a mod, you can namely make a local copy of all your mods. The data is then not constantly loaded from Steam, but directly from the hard drive. This is usually faster, more stable and more trouble-free.
Only thing to consider is that the mods are no longer automatically updated when accessed locally. Thanks to Mod Manager, however, this is not a big problem, since you can simply save updated mods again locally and thus transfer them into the game.
