Word: Strikethrough text - these are the possibilities

For formatting your text document Word has a variety of functions. For example, it is also possible to strike through the entire text or individual parts of the text. Get an overview of the methods Word offers you for this and how to use them correctly.

How to mark text as strikethrough in Word

While there are special keyboard shortcuts in many programs to strike through text, this is not the case in Word. Instead, you are left with the option in Word to format text as strikethrough via the menu.
  1. To do this, first type some text into your Word document and highlight it using the mouse.
  2. In the program's menu bar, then switch to the "Start" tab and click on the icon with the strikethrough "ab".
  3. Alternatively, you can also click on the "arrow icon" under "Start" > "Font" and in the opening window under "Effects" set a check mark at "Strikethrough".

Strikethrough text: Set a custom keyboard shortcut in Word

Even though Word does not have a keyboard shortcut to format text as strikethrough by default, you can still do this from the keyboard. To do this, you need to create a keyboard shortcut for strikethrough text yourself. To do this, first open the formatting window under "Start" > "Font" by clicking on the "Arrow" icon. Then press the "Alt" + "Ctrl" + "Plus sign" keys and check "Strikethrough". This will open a new window where you can enter a key combination for strikethrough and save it by clicking on "Assign".
