Set up Remote Desktop Windows 10

Many computers running Windows 10 include a Remote Desktop feature that allows you to access and remotely control the computer from another computer or mobile device. We explain how to set up Remote Desktop before using it in this article.

Windows 10: How to set up Remote Desktop

In order to access your home computer's desktop from another computer or mobile device, you must first set up a Remote Desktop connection. However, please note here that not all Windows 10 versions support the feature.
  1. To start setting up Remote Desktop, please open your computer's "Settings", navigate to "System" > "Remote Desktop" and click "Enable Remote Desktop".
  2. Then go to "To connect to this PC" and note there the displayed name of the host PC.

How to use the Remote Desktop in Windows 10

Have you enabled the Remote Desktop as described on the host PC, you must in a next step from another device to connect to the host PC. If the other device is also a PC running Windows 10, search for "Remote Desktop Connection" in the search box, open it and enter the name of the host PC before clicking "Connect". On the other hand, if you want to access your Windows 10 PC from a mobile device, you need the Remote Desktop app, which you can get for free from the Microsoft Store, Google Play, or the App Store.
