Ubuntu Remote Desktop - how to use the PC remotely

If you want to use another PC with a remote desktop connection and you are currently on an Ubuntu machine, you only need to allow the remote desktop connection on the Windows PC. If you want to connect to Ubuntu, use X2Go to do so.

How to make a remote desktop connection on Ubuntu

With a remote desktop connection, you can see another PC's desktop on your own - just as if you were sitting right in front of it. To do this, you need to connect the local PC to the other computer via a network, such as the Internet.
  1. Start the Windows PC and search for "Allow remote access to the computer".
  2. Here you select "Allow connection of computers running any version of Remote Desktop (less security)" under "Remote Desktop".
  3. Now you just have to confirm with "OK" and you can connect after logout.
  4. Under Ubuntu, you must now still install a Remote Desktop client. For example, you can use Remmina for this.
  5. Here you select the item "VNC" in the drop-down menu and enter the appropriate VNC or IP address.
  6. Alternatively, you can select "RDP" and specify your IP address.
  7. Click "Connect".
  8. Now you can control the Windows computer via Remote Desktop.
Want to turn Ubuntu into a remote desktop server, use X2Go. To install this program, enter the commands "sudo add-apt-repository ppa:x2go/stabe", "sudo apt-get update" and "sudo apt-get install x2goserver x2goserver-xsession" into a terminal.
