Android: Enable background data - how to do it

Many users disable background data to reduce battery consumption and save mobile data volume. However, in return, your device's Internet connection is limited. We show you how to enable background data in Android.

Background data affects various application areas when you are not on Wi-Fi. For example, with background data disabled, push messages via WhatsApp or emails may not arrive directly. In addition, the background data must be enabled to access the Google Play Store.

Android: Enable background data - here's how

In Android 6.0 (and also in most other versions), you can find the background data as follows:

1. Open the "Settings".
2. In the "Wireless & Networks" section, tap "Data usage" or, in older Android versions, "Connections" and then "Data usage".
3. Tippen Sie oben rechts auf das Menüsymbol.
4. Tippen Sie auf "Hintergrunddaten einschränken deaktivieren".
5. Zudem können Sie darunter einzelne Apps antippen und prüfen, ob „Mobile Daten“ aktiviert oder deaktiviert ist.
