Windows 10: Set up PIN

First introduced with Windows 8, there are "image code" and "PIN" options in addition to password entry. "Windows Hello" in Windows 10 offers the option to unlock the screen via biometric data such as facial recognition. If you do not have a compatible camera, you will have to resort to the PIN.

Windows 10 and its locking options

When you first start up, Windows 10 offers to exchange your password for a PIN. If you haven't set up your personal PIN here, you can do so in the system settings. The PIN is a secure way to protect your Windows computer without having to set up a long password. As a result, you unlock the computer comparatively faster, since a PIN ideally requires only a few hand movements. It still remains secure, as four numbers have over ten thousand possible combinations. If you prefer an even more secure method, you have to resort to a biometric camera to use Windows Hello. This will allow you to easily unlock your computer with your face and protect you from password hacking attacks.

How do you set up a PIN on your Windows 10 computer?

1. Click the Windows icon in the bottom left corner and select the "Settings" item.
2. Hier wechseln Sie in die Kategorie „Konten“ und zum Reiter „Anmeldeoptionen“.
3. Im Abschnitt „PIN“ klicken Sie auf „Hinzufügen“ und geben Ihr aktuelles Passwort ein.
4. Geben Sie anschließend zweimal die gewünschte PIN aus Zahlen ein. Möchten Sie neben Zahlen auch Buchstaben und Symbole für die PIN nutzen, setzen Sie bitte einen Haken bei „Buchstaben Und Symbole einschließen“.
5. Bestätigen Sie mit „OK“, um die Änderungen zu übernehmen.
