Android: Secure startup - how to set up the feature

The PIN request for system startup is already almost mandatory. With secure startup, you prevent unauthorized people from starting your Android phone. Our guide shows you how to find and set the function.

The secure start always asks for the PIN code.

Security always comes first: With Android, you have many options to protect access. Secure startup is also one of them.

Android: Secure startup quickly set up

To use secure startup, you must already have set a PIN. Then follow these steps to start your Android securely:
  1. Open the "Settings".
  2. Select "Device Security".
  3. There you will find "Secure Startup" further down.
  4. You will see two options: "Request PIN on device startup" and "Not required". Select the first option to enable secure startup.
  5. Close the menu with "OK".
If this option is not displayed, proceed as follows instead:
  1. Open "Biometrics and Security" in the settings of your device.
  2. Now navigate to "Other security settings" and select "Strong protection".
  3. You can now specify whether the PIN, a password or a pattern should be requested at boot time.
To test the function, you can now reboot your device. During the boot process, a PIN query should appear - without the correct code, access is not possible. It is strongly recommended to always leave secure boot enabled.
