Windows 10: This is Aero Shake - and how to disable it

Aero Shake is one of the many features of Windows 10 that not all users are aware of, even after years. We explain what it's all about and how you can disable the feature if needed.

Shaken, not stirred: Aero Shake is an innovative idea for more clarity on the desktop.

Thanks to Aero Shake, a hand movement is enough to minimize unneeded windows.

Windows 10: Aero Shake works both ways

First, the explanation of Aero Shake:
  • By "holding" a window by its frame with the mouse button pressed and then performing a quick shaking motion, all other windows are minimized.
  • As a result, only the shaken window remains open - with this concept, you should be able to focus on the essentials at all times.
  • And it also works the other way around: shake the window again to make all previously minimized windows reappear.
Aero Shake is embedded in the multitasking section of Windows 10, which you can find as described here. However, Aero Shake is not explicitly listed there, which makes disabling it a bit puzzling. To disable the feature, you need to set the entire "Docking windows" section to "Off". This also affects the other features listed there. Since Aero Shake can be quite handy and is unlikely to be triggered accidentally, we recommend leaving the feature enabled.
