Telegram: Security - what about it?

Telegram is a messenger service with which you can not only chat and communicate with family and friends, but also get in touch with quite a few participants worldwide. For this purpose, not only private and public groups, individual chats and supergroups are available to you, but also channels.

So secure is Telegram

According to Telegram's own statements, the app is said to be extremely secure. But this is not always the case, which is why it is recommended to take additional security precautions in certain areas.
  • For voice and video calls, Telegram is equipped with secure "end-to-end" encryption.
  • However, this is not found in the normal chat function. To be able to chat securely, you have to activate "Secret Chat" in advance to use the secure encryption. Thus, your chats are not stored on the server and can only be viewed on your terminal device.
  • However, this function is only available for individual chats. For group chats, you can not use this option.
  • While the data between your end device and the server are encrypted, but can always be seen by Telegram or even hackers at any time.
  • Furthermore, you must specify your phone number when registering with Telegram, which is also considered rather negative and a vulnerability.
